Berlin/Dresden, September 2021 DEMECAN, the only independent German producer of medical cannabis, will receive substantial state subsidies worth several million Euros.

An application for the “Gemeinschaftsaufgabe ‘Verbesserung der regionalen Wirtschaftsstruktur’” (GRW) subsidies, which had been submitted to the Sächsische Aufbaubank for the expansion of the production plant near Dresden, was recently approved. The focus of the subsidies program lies in supporting the regional industry. DEMECAN’s investments in the construction of the cannabis production facility will receive a 30% subsidy from the Sächsische Aufbaubank. This measure is financed with tax funds based on the budget adopted by the Parliament of Saxony.

DEMECAN has also recently strengthened its management team with a new appointment. Jörg Sellmann has joined the management board and will lead the financial department as managing director.

After concluding his training as a banker at Deutsche Bank, Jörg Sellmann completed his studies in business administration at the Westfälische Wilhelms University in Münster. Prior to joining DEMECAN’s management board, he worked in investment banking for several years before holding the position of Global Head of M&A at the chemical group Degussa AG in Düsseldorf. Subsequently, Jörg Sellmann worked as Senior Director at the European private equity fund EQT in Munich. After that, he successfully founded start-ups in various sectors, has since been active as a business angel, and is also a shareholder of DEMECAN.

Berlin/Dresden, June 09, 2022 – DEMECAN has signed major supply agreements for medicinal cannabis flowers with Little Green Pharma (Denmark), Safricanna (South Africa), and Atlas Growers (Canada). Over the next few years, DEMECAN will be supplied exclusively with at least 6 different medical cannabis flowers from these three suppliers. Deliveries will begin this year, subject to regulatory and licensing requirements. The combined amount will be over 2.2 tons of dried cannabis flower in the first year of delivery alone.

Berlin/Dresden, April 20, 2022 – DEMECAN, the only independent German producer of medical cannabis, has made the first cannabis flowers available for collection by the German Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). With this, DEMECAN ensures a constant supply of high-quality medical cannabis from German cultivation and increases the independence from imports in the supply of medicinal products.

DEMECAN is the only independent German cannabis producer supplying patients in Germany with cannabis flowers from its own EU-DEMECAN has established itself as the only independent producer of medical cannabis and leading wholesaler in Germany. 2500 cannabis plants are now growing in its own flower rooms in Saxony. In 2022, over 300 kg of high-quality cannabis flowers have already been harvested, dried and packaged to date. Over 100 kg of these will be made available for collection on April 20 by the federal cannabis agency and for distribution to pharmacies.

DEMECAN was the only independent German company to be awarded a contract by the BfArM to produce cannabis flowers in Germany. In an elaborate selection process, DEMECAN chose an indica-dominant strain based on the cultivar OG Kush with a high THC content. The phenotype chosen for production was carefully selected by DEMECAN from over 250 plants.

DEMECAN has already been able to produce about half of the quantity ordered annually by the BfArM. Up to 660 kg of this variety are delivered from Saxony per year. In the future, DEMECAN could even produce much larger quantities of high quality cannabis than previously allocated by the BfArM. Since March, another variety (Typ 2 DEMECAN) is also in cultivation. DEMECAN will announce more details about this variety at the upcoming delivery.

Knowing that their own cannabis flowers are available in pharmacies is a special milestone for physician and co-founder Dr. Adrian Fischer, who is the managing director responsible for cultivation and quality control: "Finally, you can get cannabis from Germany in pharmacies. I am particularly pleased that many patients can be helped with this fine product and that we can improve the supply situation through cultivation in this country. Of course, it would be desirable if we were allowed to produce considerably more. DEMECAN is be able to do that."

From a Berlin startup to Germany's largest cannabis producer.

Since 2017, cannabis has been legally approved as medicine in Germany. In 2019, DEMECAN was the only independent German company to be awarded a contract by the German government for the production of cannabis flowers for medical use. The associated supply contract is valid for the period of four years. Production will take place at the EU-GMP certified production facility near Dresden and in accordance with the high quality standards of pharmaceutical manufacturing.

DEMECAN acquired the 100,000 sqm production site in the summer of 2020. In under 15 months of construction, the building - a former slaughterhouse - was converted and is now the largest indoor cannabis production facility in Europe. 24 cm of reinforced concrete in all walls, steel doors, 150 cameras and a high-tech computer system to control and optimize plant growth, ensure the perfect cultivation of the plants. Thanks to the modular expandable production capacities, DEMECAN can also massively increase the production capacity at short notice to meet the growing demand in Germany.

January 2022 - DEMECAN, the only independent German producer of medicinal cannabis, has been granted a manufacturing license in accordance with §13 AMG (German Medicines Act) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certification for its production facility near Dresden. The GMP manufacturing license granted by the Saxon state authority allows DEMECAN to produce dried cannabis as medicinal products with immediate effect.

The internationally recognized certification ensures the high quality of medicinal products over the entire manufacturing process. GMP stands for "Good Manufacturing Practice" and means the highest manufacturing standards, which are independently monitored and inspected by pharmaceutical authorities.

Dr. Adrian Fischer, a medical doctor and DEMECAN's managing director, is pleased: "GMP certification is the strictest standard that manufacturers have to meet, as high quality is expected from pharmaceuticals. The fact that we now hold this certificate in our hands is an extraordinary milestone in DEMECAN's young history and an important one for the development of the German Cannabis Center in Saxony. As founder and CEO, I am very grateful for the great team with which we managed to pass the inspection only six weeks after the completion of our building. And we have now fully ramped up production capacity. That's an incredible accomplishment, and we'll celebrate that appropriately as soon as the Covid situation allows."

The way is now clear for the first cannabis flowers "Made in Germany". DEMECAN still plans to deliver the first products to the state cannabis agency and through it to pharmacies in Q1/22. The in-house produced flower will then complement the existing Florestura flower portfolio.

With GMP certification, DEMECAN can now produce its own medicines and test them for efficacy through clinical trials. The research activity is important as there is still prejudice against cannabis in medicine. In order to pave the way for further therapeutic areas and to further reduce the prescription hurdles for patients, further research is therefore needed both nationally and internationally. DEMECAN supports this and plans to start its own study this year.

The investment will be used for further growth as well as the expansion of the production facility, located near Dresden, into Europe's most modern facility for the cultivation and processing of medicinal cannabis.

The investment in the upper single-digit million range comes from private and institutional investors, among whom is new investor Futury Fund as well as existing shareholders, including the btov Private Investor Network.

This financing round is an important step for DEMECAN in its rapid growth trajectory since being selected as a supplier of medical cannabis for the Federal Republic of Germany in 2019. To implement the corporate strategy, the DEMECAN Group intends to establish a subsidiary in the state of Hessen. Berlin/Dresden, 03. March, 2021 - For just under four years, seriously ill patients have been able to obtain medical cannabis on prescription. Tens of thousands of patients with chronic pain, spasticity, anorexia/wasting, nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy already benefit from this additional therapy option. But growing demand exceeds availability, and bureaucratic hurdles make prescribing difficult. Despite this imbalance, patient care must be ensured. DEMECAN, as a German pioneer, is committed to the security of supply and ensuring therapeutic diversity under the highest pharmaceutical quality.

The possibility of prescribing cannabinoids for the therapy of seriously ill people has added an important add-on therapy to the framework of a multimodal therapy approach. In the first half of last year, over 160,000 SHI prescriptions of cannabinoids were recorded. As use increases, so does knowledge about the indications, effects, and side effects, as well as the therapeutic diversity of the products. In addition to the indication of chronic pain, other areas of application include oncology (e.g. tumor pain) and neurological diseases (e.g. epilepsy). Nevertheless, significant underuse of seriously ill patients is to be expected, especially in the field of family medicine. The main reasons are bureaucratic hurdles in the application process and skepticism on the part of physicians and insurances.

Ensure supply

The health policy objective of a quality-assured and demand-oriented supply of patients in Germany with cannabis-based medicinal products primarily provides for the regulated cultivation in Germany. DEMECAN was awarded the contract for the cultivation of medical cannabis by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) and has set itself the task of ensuring the nationwide supply of high-quality medical cannabis in "Made in Germany" quality for the benefit of patients. For this purpose, medical cannabis is produced under strictly controlled conditions near Dresden.

From cultivation to further processing and storage to delivery to pharmacies - at DEMECAN everything is covered from a single source - making it the only independent German company that cultivates cannabis for medical purposes in Germany.

Focus on the patient

Only a small proportion of severely ill patients who could benefit from additional add-on therapy are already receiving add-on therapy with cannabis-based medicines today. The total of 3.8 million patients with severe chronic pain alone suggests an undersupply. Also, data from the cannabis companion survey ordered by the federal government indicate that the diagnostic spectrum of medical cannabis is expanding. Imports must be relied upon to meet national supply needs, preferably from companies with existing medical and quality-assured expertise.

For this reason, DEMECAN has entered into a collaboration agreement with Little Green Pharma, a vertically integrated company from Australia specializing in medical cannabis. Little Green Pharma, like DEMECAN, actively promotes educational programs and participates in clinical trials and research projects of medical cannabis.

With the launch of the medical cannabis flower DEMECAN 20:01 Florestura, a THC-rich flower with Sativa dominance, DEMECAN provides high-quality medical cannabis for patient care.

Safe supply

"Securing care, safe care" is the motto of the Pain and Palliative Day of the German Society for Pain Medicine (DGS) taking place in March. The presidium under Dr. Johannes Horlemann is strongly committed to the adequate care of seriously ill patients. Among other things, for the dismantling of bureaucratic hurdles to facilitate access to medication. But also in the evaluation of the evidence situation around the therapeutic variety of the different dosage forms. In this context, flowers represent an important part of the supply alongside extracts and finished medicinal products. In 2021, the practice guideline "Cannabis in Pain Medicine" will therefore be further developed to take into account the improved study situation in the use of all applications of cannabinoids. Therapy with cannabis flowers will be re-evaluated. Berlin/Dresden, 01. February 2021 - DEMECAN enters into a Supply-Agreement with MediPharm Labs Australia (MediPharm Labs) for the supply of multiple proprietary full-spectrum cannabis extracts. Under the agreement MediPharm Labs will supply DEMECAN over the next three years – with the option to extend the term of the agreement – an annual volume of at least 9,000 units of white-label cannabis extracts. Delivery is expected to commence in 2021, subject to regulatory and permitting requirements.

Berlin/Dresden, 10. September 2020 – DEMECAN, the only German pharmaceutical producer and wholesaler of medical cannabis, is committed to the nationwide supply of high-quality medical cannabis to patients in Germany.

For this purpose, DEMECAN purchased the production facility of the former cannabis producer Wayland near Dresden and is building Europe's largest indoor production facility for medical cannabis in Europe.

On September 9^th, the site was visited by representatives from the German Cannabisagency of the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM). The DEMECAN facility is of high interest to BfArM, as it will ensure that the domestic supply for medicinal cannabis is provided for by a domestic manufacturer.

Established in 2017, BfArM strictly monitors the cultivation of cannabis plants for medical purposes in Germany. The agency must ensure that only cannabis of highest pharmaceutical quality is delivered to pharmacies. In May 2019 DEMECAN was the only domestic company that received a licenset to grow and distribute medical cannabis in Germany.

Berlin/Dresden, 06. May 2020 – The German medicinal drug market is currently experiencing exceptional circumstances due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Supply chain disruptions around the world have affected pharmaceutical imports to Germany, including medical cannabis imports. For example, many Canadian products are currently severely backordered. DEMECAN – the German specialist for medicinal cannabis – helps by importing medicinal cannabis from Bedrocan from the Netherlands to ensure a consistent supply for German pharmacies.

Even prior to the pandemic, in 2019 there were increasing cannabis supply shortages in Germany. The pandemic has encouraged DEMECAN to close supply gaps locally. To that end, last year the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) awarded DEMECAN a contract to produce and process medicinal cannabis for Germany. DEMECAN is currently constructing the manufacturing facility near Dresden. In addition, the DEMECAN wholesale department started the import of medicinal cannabis and is expanding its distribution network.
